This standard covers the requirements for the materials and application of a cement-mortar lining to the inside surface of 4-inch (100 mm) and larger new and old steel, ductile-iron, and cast-iron water pipelines that have been previously installed, plus the related work for performing a complete contract.
Description
The following topics are discussed in the foreword: history of cement-mortar lining, history of the standard, metrication, information to be supplied by purchaser, and major revisions. Section one presents the scope, definitions, and referenced standards and discusses the affidavit of compliance, workmanship, and equipment. Section two describes materials for construction, including Portland cement, pozzolanic material, admixtures, sand, and water. Section three, general cement-mortar lining design, addresses composition, proportions, water content, mixing, and thickness of lining. Methods of construction for rehabilitated pipelines are presented in section four. Topics discussed in this section include: access openings, preparation of pipe surface, machine application of mortar lining, surface finish, hand application of mortar lining, special requirements of laterals and service connections, and curing. Section five deals with inspection of rehabilitated pipelines. Temporary bypass facilities are discussed in section six. Contingent work, including obstructions, leaking valves, and distribution system general upgrade, are addressed in section seven. Methods of construction for use with new steel pipe are described in section eight, and inspection considerations for new steel pipe are found in section nine.
