These specifications cover the material and application requirements for coal-tar enamel protective coatings for steel water pipe of large diameter (C203), and also steel water pipe up to, but not including, 30 in. in diameter (C204), where conditions warrant their use. An appendix has been added to these specifications to provide additional exterior protective measures for extraordinary or severe soil conditions. The purchaser, when inviting bids, shall specify his requirements for protective coating by referring to the designation of these specifications and to the section and subdivision of the appendix for the type of additional protection if such be required. In addition, the purchaser shall supply certain detailed information covering each individual contract in accordance with C203, Sec.1-3, and C204, Sec.6-1.3 of these specifications.
Description
The most recent changes in Specifications C203-55 were made on July 14, 1955, and include the following: Appendix Sec. A5-2.1.2-Weight per 100 Sq.Ft. [of asbestos coal-tar saturated felt] - limits changed from 12.5-15.5 lb. to 12-15 lb.; Appendix Sec. A5-2.1.5-Saturation - percentages changed and formula for calculation added; and, the following changes have been made in the date of ASTM designations referred to in these specifications - ASTM D88-38 changed to D88- 53; ASTM D146-27, to D146-47; ASTM D154-28, to D154-53; and ASTM D287-39, to D287-53T. Also, in Appendix Sec. A5-22-Portland Cement, ASTM Designation C9-37 changed to C150-53. The most recent changes in Specifications C204-55 were made on July 14, 1955, and include the following: Sec. 6-2.5.2-Weight per 100 Sq.Ft. [of asbestos coal-tar saturated felt] - limits changed from 12.5-15.5 lb. to 12-15 lb.; Sec. 6-2.5.5-Saturation - percentages changed and formula for calculation added; and, the following changes have been made in the date of ASTM Designations referred to in these specifications - ASTM D146-27 changed to D146-47; ASTM D154-28, to D154-53; and ASTM D287-39, to D287- 53T.
