The Story of Drinking Water, Teacher and Activity Guide, Sixth Edition
The Story of Drinking Water is an exploration of water’s role in our environment and society, with an emphasis on the importance of a safe and reliable water supply. The Teachers’ Guide targets educators who teach science and social studies in fourth through sixth grades, but the activities herein can also be used with lower elementary grades and middle school students.
Description
The Story of Drinking Water and the Teachers' Guide have both been completely revised and updated, expanding the science of water to include ecosystems, photosynthesis, weather, and climate, as well as addressing sustainability problems and solutions that affect our water supplies and environment. The activities have been aligned with national Science Process Standards, Bloom’s revised Cognitive Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, and the National Next Generation Science Standards. Charts at the beginning of the book allow educators to see at a glance which activities align with what standards and objectives. All activities adhere to science curriculum, and many include math, social studies, and language arts.
This curriculum originated in 1984, with activities created by Rosalie Bock, an author and environmental education consultant. It was revised by Kelley Staggs, a K–12 curriculum specialist and GT Science STEM teacher with a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Colorado and earth science certification from the Colorado School of Mines.
