Description
The history of the standard, information regarding use of this standard, and major revisions are covered in the foreword. Section 1 discusses scope, definitions, references, affidavit of compliance, and permeation. Section 2 discusses materials including composition, physical requirements, and chemical requirements. Section 3 discusses design including pipe classifications, pipe diameters, pipe lengths, couplings, joints, and wall thickness. Section 4 on workmanship and finish covers imperfections. Section 5 discusses inspection, testing, and rejection including inspection, physical test requirements, retests (physical) and rejection, test for uncombined calcium hydroxide, and test records. Section 6 covers marking and delivery. The appendix covers fittings for use with asbestos-cement transmission pipe. Major revisions include: the history of the standard was edited to reflect the sequence of events leading to this edition, a caveat has been added to the section on information regarding use of this standard in the Foreword advising users to familiarize themselves with the new OSHA regulations related to employer exposure to airborne asbestos particles, the section on permeation was added to advise users of potential permeation of the pipe by low molecular weight hydrocarbons and organic solvents, and the section on composition was revised to change the limit on organic materials in the finished pipe from “none” to "shall not contain more than 0.2%."
