C215-94: AWWA Standard for Extruded Polyolefin Coatings for the Exterior of Steel Water Pipelines (PDF)

SKU: STC_0037931-PDF
This standard covers the materials, systems, and application requirements for shop-applied, extruded polyolefin coatings for the exterior of steel water pipe up to 120 in. (3,048 mm) in diameter. 1.1.1 Extrusion types.

Description

The standard covers the following three types of coating-system applications. Type A, crosshead-die extrusion, consists of an adhesive and an extruded polyolefin sheath. This system is limited to pipe diameters of 1/2 - 36 in. (13-914 mm). Type B, side extrusion, consists of an extruded adhesive and an extruded polyolefin sheath. This system is limited to pipe diameters of 2-120 in. (51-3,048 mm). Type C, tape-and-side extrusion, consists of a primer/inner-layer tape meeting the requirements of AWWA C214. The tape shall be compatible with the extruded polyolefin sheath for spiral pipe, but not limited to same. This system is presently limited to pipe diameters of 4-120 in. (102-3,048 mm). 1.1.2 Maximum temperatures. All AWWA steel pipe coating standards are written for and are based on the service temperature of potable water. Extruded polyolefin coatings have performed at higher temperatures. Consult the coating manufacturer for conditions and limitations. The purpose of this standard is to provide purchasers, manufacturers, constructors, and applicators with the minimum requirements for extruded polyolefin coatings for steel water pipe, including material, application, inspection, testing, marking, handling and packaging requirements. Major changes made in this edition of the standard are as follows: The standard was reformatted and edited throughout; Sec. I.C., Acceptance, and Sec. III.B., Modification to Standard, were added to the foreword.
