Description

This standard provides for protective exterior coatings that consist of cold-applied primer and prefabricated tape and their application to special sections, connections, and fittings to be used with underground and underwater steel water pipelines protected with an organic coating. Such coatings are not intended for exposed steel joints or sections of steel pipe if cement coating has been applied directly to bare steel pipe. Included are sections on the following: conditions not covered in standard, definitions, affidavit of compliance, equipment, basis for rejection and provisions for retesting, references, prefabricated coating system, material compliance, primer, prefabricated tape, coating application, material and workmanship, cleaning, priming, coating and wrapping, inspection and testing, access of inspector, facilities for inspector, manufacturer's test for physical properties, electrical inspection by contractor, packaging, marking and storing. The appendix includes a table for estimating surface area of pipe.
