What Operators Need to Know: Fundamentals for the Water Professional

SKU: 20870

The goal of this book is to take large topics and break them down into basics that even new operators can understand. Operator licensing courses throughout the United States often focus on the “what”—mostly the specifics within a state’s administrative code (law) that operators need to know to meet compliance. This book goes much deeper, and in simple terms, looks at the “why” behind the “what.” In addition, video links have also been incorporated that can be viewed online through AWWA, and at the end of each chapter are reviews with real-life scenarios, training questions, and additional AWWA resources.

Description

The book begins with a topic most in the industry don’t know much about: the history of water quality regulations and analysis in the United States. This is an important subject because it shows how far the industry has come in the past 100 years. This is followed by chapters detailing the treatment process from source to the treatment plant and distribution system. Then, many laboratory topics and contaminants are covered as well as topics on communication, customer complaints, and the analysis of unknowns. The book ends with chapters on industrial pretreatment, wastewater treatment, water reuse, safety, and ethics.
