Assessing Need for a Corrosion Control Evaluation
Course Length: 4 Hours | 0.4 CEUs*
This course covers the assessment of corrosion control practices, identifying when further evaluation is necessary, and the data and analytical techniques available to support this evaluation. This is the second course in an AWWA's series on Corrosion Control Theory & Treatment.
Objectives
- Explain the context for applying Corrosion Control Treatment (CCT).
- Identify what data are needed to support CCT decisions and where data gaps exist.
- Describe key considerations and techniques for analyzing data.
- Determine when it is appropriate to initiate or revisit CCT.
- Recognize source or treatment changes that are likely to warrant a CCT evaluation.
- Identify possible water quality impacts as they relate to CCT that could results due to a change in source or treatment.
- Decide which corrosion control studies are appropriate for evaluating CCT.
Description
Active management of drinking water corrosivity, known as corrosion control, prevents harmful levels of metals like lead and copper from contaminating water and protects pipes.
This course covers the importance and history of corrosion control treatment, illustrating the need for informed decision-making in managing and changing corrosion control. It provides a framework for ongoing oversight and identifies when changes in source or treatment necessitate a corrosion control evaluation. Evaluating performance involves collecting and organizing relevant information to support treatment selection or modification.
The course addresses key data streams, data organization, and the need for new data to support decisions. It also highlights the risks of incorrect data collection or misinterpretation, which can lead to decision-making errors.
This course includes the following modules:
Module 1: Importance of Applying Corrosion Control Treatment.
Module 2: Data To Collect To Support Decisions.
Module 3: How To Analyze Data To Support CCT Decisions.
Module 4: When Is It Appropriate To Initiate Or Revisit CCT?
This course, the second in the AWWA-ASDWA Corrosion Control Certificate Program, will help the learner explore aspects of corrosion control theory that can be used to select and test Corrosion Control Treatment (CCT) that best minimizes the release of lead and copper from distribution system and premise plumbing materials.
This course is non-refundable.
