Description

This standard covers a coal-tar epoxy coating system that is suitable for potable water and that will provide protection from corrosion to both interior and exterior of steel water pipe, fittings, and specials installed underground or underwater. The coating system with or without additional cathodic protection shall consist of one coat of a two-package inhibited epoxy primer, and one or two coats of a two-package coal-tar epoxy topcoat. At the purchaser's option the pipe, fittings, or specials may be cleaned and primed in the shop and topcoats applied in the field, or cleaned, primed and top coated in the shop, or cleaned and all coats applied in the field.
